Getting the Most Out of Your Snowblower

For many of us, keeping our property safe, clean, and in tip-top condition throughout the winter means keeping it properly cleared of snow. As you already know, this can be back-breaking, time-consuming work... and it needs to be done over and over again as the season progresses. This can lead many people to dread the coming of winter instead of looking forward to enjoying the beauty of a new snowfall.

For those reasons and more, many people have chosen to invest in a snowblower to help make keeping their sidewalks, driveways, and gardens clear of accumulated snow a much easier, simpler process. However, like any other machinery, there are ways to make sure you're getting as much out of the experience of owning it as you possibly can. Are you getting everything you should out of your blower?

Are you using the right blower in the first place?

Getting the Most Out of Your Snowblower

Many people make rush decisions when it comes to buying a snowblower, thinking that one is just as good as another. However, they couldn't be more wrong. If it seems like clearing your property with your snowblower is as frustrating and tiring as shoveling it would be, then the chances are excellent that you need to consider upgrading to a more powerful model.

If you have a large property to maintain or you're sometimes finding yourself facing feet of snow to deal with after a recent snowfall, you should have a more powerful dual-stage blower at your disposal instead of a smaller single-stage model. A single-stage blower is made to handle less snow and smaller overall areas. Trying to clear an extra long driveway of snow with a blower not up to the task will be every bit as difficult as shoveling would be. Consider investing in a bigger, better blower. Your back will thank you for it!

Are you taking the time to properly maintain your blower?

You wouldn't even consider not properly maintaining your car or your indoor household appliances. Why neglect your snowblower? Every fall before winter arrives you should make getting your snowblower ready for the coming season part of your pre-winter routine. Look over all the belts, bolts, and moving parts to make sure nothing is loose, rusty, or broken and tend to anything that is. Check the rubber paddles and rubber parts on the auger to make sure seals are tight and up to par. If they're not, replace those as well. Make sure the tires are properly inflated and in working order as well.

You should also tend to the blower's engine properly. Make sure you replace the sparkplug and oil regularly. Lube up the drive and chassis as well to make sure all systems are "go" for your first snowfall. You should also make sure that you're stocked up on gas. There's nothing more irritating than having to deal with these things at the last minute when your driveway is full of snow you need to take care of ASAP.

Getting the most out of your snowblower really just starts with doing your homework, making sure you have the right equipment in the first place, and keeping it in working order so that you get years of good quality use out of it. Do that and it won't be long before you're looking through your window at the falling snow and thinking of nothing but how beautiful it is instead of anticipating tomorrow's backache.

The Importance of Choosing the Right Snowblower

When it comes to maintaining your property during the snowy winter months, there's no doubt that purchasing a snowblower can be a huge help. Simply shoveling your snow may seem like the simpler, more frugal option, but it is also the more time-consuming, back-breaking option as well. If you live in a region that can receive several feet of snowfall all at once, then being able to keep your porches and driveways snow-free can even enter into the territory of trying to perform a miracle. In cases like that, a snowblower isn't a luxury anymore. It's a necessary investment.

However, as is the case with purchasing a car, a stereo, or any other major piece of personal equipment, there are different types of snowblowers out there meant to suit any number of different needs. It's important to know what your needs are before hand and to know which snowblowers would best suit those needs before you settle on a particular one once and for all.

Know Your Needs

The Importance of Choosing the Right Snowblower

The first step in choosing the right snowblower is in properly assessing your needs. How large an area do you typically have to clear after a snowfall? How much snow are you usually dealing with in your area - just inches or several feet at times? How much money are you willing to invest in your new snowblower? All of these factors are of the utmost importance when it comes to determining which type of snowblower is the right choice for you.

Single-Stage or Dual-Stage

Snowblowers come in two basic styles when it comes to what they're able to accomplish in regards to the job to be done. Single-stage snowblowers are models equipped with smaller augers that typically touch the ground. They are perfectly adequate for clearing average-sized driveways and properties of average amounts of collected snow. They are also going to be the most cost-conscious blower. If you opt for this type of blower, you can choose an electric model or a more powerful gas-powered option. These blowers are best when used to clear areas that don't involve gravel, rocks, or other loose objects. Since the auger does touch the ground, it is possible for such things to get inside the blower and damage it.

Dual-stage snowblowers are more powerful models with larger augers that don't touch the ground. They are designed to handle larger quantities of snow at a time and move it further. These are the way to go if your property is very large or you live in an area where snowfall tends to be very heavy. They are also better choices for clearing areas that do involve gravel or other loose particles that could damage a lesser blower.

See Your Blower As an Investment

Go into your search for the right snowblower as you would approach making any other kind of serious investment. This is a type of equipment where cutting corners to save a buck or two really doesn't pay off, so once you determine which model blower will do the job right, it's really in your best interest to upgrade your purchase or save up until you can. Trying to clear a large property with a tiny, discount snowblower that isn't up to the job will be just as frustrating and back-breaking as trying to shovel it instead.

With the right snowblower in your corner, you can finally start looking forward to winter and the beauty of a snowfall again instead of dreading the constant backaches and hours of tiring labor. Start your search today and see what a difference a blower can make for you!
