For many of us, keeping our property safe, clean, and in tip-top condition throughout the winter means keeping it properly cleared of snow. As you already know, this can be back-breaking, time-consuming work... and it needs to be done over and over again as the season progresses. This can lead many people to dread the coming of winter instead of looking forward to enjoying the beauty of a new snowfall.
For those reasons and more, many people have chosen to invest in a snowblower to help make keeping their sidewalks, driveways, and gardens clear of accumulated snow a much easier, simpler process. However, like any other machinery, there are ways to make sure you're getting as much out of the experience of owning it as you possibly can. Are you getting everything you should out of your blower?

Are you using the right blower in the first place?
Many people make rush decisions when it comes to buying a snowblower, thinking that one is just as good as another. However, they couldn't be more wrong. If it seems like clearing your property with your snowblower is as frustrating and tiring as shoveling it would be, then the chances are excellent that you need to consider upgrading to a more powerful model.
If you have a large property to maintain or you're sometimes finding yourself facing feet of snow to deal with after a recent snowfall, you should have a more powerful dual-stage blower at your disposal instead of a smaller single-stage model. A single-stage blower is made to handle less snow and smaller overall areas. Trying to clear an extra long driveway of snow with a blower not up to the task will be every bit as difficult as shoveling would be. Consider investing in a bigger, better blower. Your back will thank you for it!
Are you taking the time to properly maintain your blower?
You wouldn't even consider not properly maintaining your car or your indoor household appliances. Why neglect your snowblower? Every fall before winter arrives you should make getting your snowblower ready for the coming season part of your pre-winter routine. Look over all the belts, bolts, and moving parts to make sure nothing is loose, rusty, or broken and tend to anything that is. Check the rubber paddles and rubber parts on the auger to make sure seals are tight and up to par. If they're not, replace those as well. Make sure the tires are properly inflated and in working order as well.
You should also tend to the blower's engine properly. Make sure you replace the sparkplug and oil regularly. Lube up the drive and chassis as well to make sure all systems are "go" for your first snowfall. You should also make sure that you're stocked up on gas. There's nothing more irritating than having to deal with these things at the last minute when your driveway is full of snow you need to take care of ASAP.
Getting the most out of your snowblower really just starts with doing your homework, making sure you have the right equipment in the first place, and keeping it in working order so that you get years of good quality use out of it. Do that and it won't be long before you're looking through your window at the falling snow and thinking of nothing but how beautiful it is instead of anticipating tomorrow's backache.
